Asbestos exposure doesn't always cause disease such as  chrysotile peritoneal mesothelioma

Being around asbestos doesn't necessarily result in illness. As long as the asbestos remains undisturbed, in the insulation of your walls or in your pipes, for instance, levels of risk are low. But any loosening, cutting or opening of materials containing the substance definitely produces risk. Refer here for other possible sources of asbestos exposure.

But once inhaled, asbestos enters the body and can stay in the tissues indefinitely. Whether your exposure will result in a disease such as chrysotile peritoneal mesothelioma or other type of mesothelioma will depend upon the type of asbestos to which you are exposed. Research suggests that some types of asbestos are more likely than others to cause lung cancer, asbestosis, and, in particular, mesothelioma, but all forms are dangerous and can cause disease.
